After my successful run on Monday I couldn't wait to get back on the water to practice some more (although the body is feeling a little tired!). A storm blew in yesterday and it was far too windy and rough to get out, but we were hoping the Southerly forecast for today would settle things down.
Location: Waikanae Boat Club
Equipment: Naish Matador 3m, Naish Hover 125L, Naish Jet 1650
Wind: approx 8-25kts S. (windfinder subsquently showed 17-34)
We had a look at Waikanae Beach near the Estuary but the wind was really strong and the water was rough. So we opted for the Boat Club where the Dunes gave a bit of shelter. But this did mean the wind was more gusty.
Today was a Challenge! I did get up on the foil but by trying to stay upwind I seemed to keep stalling out. And still ended up miles down wind at the end. The wind was quite offshore (cross off) making it even more diff to get back to base.
I nearly didn't go out, but it is hard to turn down a session, so thought I would give it a shot. It was really good practice in less than ideal conditions with gusty winds and choppy water, so I was pleased to get going on the foil.
Not much more to add. Quite a few spills, but lots of foil time as well, so all in all a good day. My mind is already thinking about how to improve my next session.
